At Bishop Bridgeman we believe excellent attendance is vital to excellent achievement. If pupils are not in school, they cannot learn and progress. Those children who have an attendance figure of 95% and above will achieve higher and obtain better qualifications than those children whose attendance figure is below 95%.

It is important to note that a pupil who has an attendance figure of 90% in one year on average loses 100 lessons or 4 weeks of school. A pupil with an attendance figure over their school life loses a whole year of school!

The Local Authority has systems in place to take action against parents and carers who fail in their legal duty to send thier child to school. At Bishop Bridgeman we are committed to support parents to enable our children to gain the highest possible levels of attendance.

Targets

In 2025-26 the government has set each school a minimum target, our target is to increase by 0.6%, this means if we achieve this our pupils will gain at least an extra 476 extra school days compared to the previous year.  

*UPDATE Summer 2026: We achieved our target! We increased our attendance by 0.9% for all pupils and 1.4% for those pupils of compulsory school age.
