"Love God, love yourself, love your neighbour." Luke 10:27
MATHEMATICS
Mathematics is a creative and highly inter-connected discipline. It is essential to everyday life; critical to science, technology and engineering and most forms of employment. A high-quality mathematics education therefore provides a foundation for understanding the world, the ability to reason mathematically, an appreciation of the beauty and power of mathematics, and a sense of enjoyment and curiosity about the subject.
Teaching mathematics at Bishop Bridgeman aims to ensure that all pupils:
become fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics,
reason mathematically,
can solve problems by applying their mathematics to a variety of problems with increasing difficulty.
The programmes of study are organised into distinct domains:
Number and place value
Addition and Subtraction
Multiplication and Division
Fractions
Measurements
Properties of shape
Position and direction
Statistics
It is expected that pupils move through the curriculum at broadly the same pace. However, we tailor our teaching to meet the specific needs of each individual pupil. Pupils who grasp concepts rapidly will be challenged through rich and sophisticated problems which will develop reasoning and problem-solving skills.
